Seminar Contents:

Practitioners often encounter situations where the client’s possession boundary does not coincide with the record boundaries.  Depending upon the circumstances, the possession boundary may become the ownership boundary.  In other cases, acts of the party(ies) and surrounding circumstances may locate the boundary that the recode alone fails to fix with clarity. The workshop will explain and discuss estoppel, acquiescence, practical location, agreement, adverse possession, and dedication.  In addition to a basic understanding of these doctrines, the practitioner will learn what their role and responsibilities are in these cases.

Presenter:

Knud E. Hermansen is an attorney, professional engineer, and professional land surveyor licensed in several states. His education includes a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. (Doctorate in Law) from West Virginia University.  Currently, Knud is a Professor at the University of Maine and operates a consulting firm offering land surveying, engineering and legal services.  Professional membership includes the National Lawyers Association, American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, American Society of Civil Engineers, Maine State Bar Association, and several state surveying societies. He is an author or co-author of the books titled: Boundary Principals and Procedures for Pennsylvania and Maine Boundary Law.

Note: All Illinois Professional Land Surveyors licenses will expire on November 30, 2008. Renewals will require 20-hours of Professional Development.
