Seminar Contents:
Practitioners often
encounter situations where the client’s possession boundary does not
coincide with the record boundaries. Depending upon the
circumstances, the possession boundary may become the ownership
boundary. In other cases, acts of the party(ies) and surrounding
circumstances may locate the boundary that the recode alone fails to
fix with clarity. The workshop will explain and discuss estoppel,
acquiescence, practical location, agreement, adverse possession, and
dedication. In addition to a basic understanding of these
doctrines, the practitioner will learn what their role and
responsibilities are in these cases.
Presenter:
Knud E. Hermansen is an
attorney, professional engineer, and professional land surveyor
licensed in several states. His education includes a Ph.D. in Civil
Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. (Doctorate
in Law) from West Virginia University. Currently, Knud is a
Professor at the University of Maine and operates a consulting firm
offering land surveying, engineering and legal services.
Professional membership includes the National Lawyers Association,
American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, American Society of
Civil Engineers, Maine State Bar Association, and several state
surveying societies. He is an author or co-author of the books
titled: Boundary Principals and Procedures for Pennsylvania
and Maine Boundary Law.
Note: All Illinois Professional Land Surveyors licenses will expire
on November 30, 2008. Renewals will require 20-hours of Professional
Development.
